How to Get Along With Your Tow Truck Driver

One of the most stressful things about driving is a breakdown. This can be even more stressful if it happens in a remote area that you’re unfamiliar with, and doubly so if it happens at nighttime.

You might ask yourself a couple of questions such as, "How do I get along with my tow truck driver?" or "How can I prepare for when my car is towed?" Here are a few tips that we recommend when a tow truck driver comes to your rescue.

1. If Possible, Try to Get Off the Shoulder of the Road

While this is not always possible during a breakdown, it’s much safer and easier to deal with a tow truck driver if he or she has room to operate. Imagine being stuck on the side of a busy highway. You probably feel nervous even getting out of your driver’s side door with fast, oncoming traffic zooming past you. So imagine how he or she must feel, trying to hook your car up for a tow.

If possible, try to get off the side of a road before calling a tow company. If this isn’t possible, keep as far as possible from the lanes of traffic.

2. Stay In Communication With Your Towing Company Employee

If you are in a remote or unfamiliar area, it’s important to keep an eye on your phone. The tow truck driver may be unfamiliar with the area or may have a difficult time locating where you have broken down. Have your volume turned up loudly on your phone, and be sure the towing employee has your correct number.

3. Stand Clear of Your Vehicle at All Times

Being a safe distance from your vehicle is of the utmost importance when dealing with your towing professional. Many people are worried about what is happening with their car when it has broken down. Most tend to stand close to their vehicle and the tow truck, which isn’t safe.

Keep a safe distance from the vehicle and the tow truck during the process. The professional towing employee will appreciate you giving them space during the entire time they’re taking care of your vehicle. This will also keep you safe should an accident occur during the removal of your vehicle from where it has broken down.

4. Try to Relax and Treat Your Towing Professional With Kindness and Respect

Many people become very stressed when their vehicle has broken down. They’re worried about the safety of the car on the side of the road, or the cost of the upcoming repair. Be kind and respectful to the towing company professionals. They will be better able to care for your car and get you to safety if you are not being harsh or rude to them.

Remember these tips should you break down and have to deal with a towing professional. They will appreciate it and be able to service your needs in a far better way.
