The Least Reliable Pickup Trucks

When you’re in the market for a new vehicle, the last thing you probably want to think about is having a breakdown on the side of the road. However, that might not be a bad idea! Reliability is everything, especially when it comes to purchasing a pickup truck that’s meant to handle heavy-duty loads. This post from your tow truck service in Salt Lake City, UT will cover this year’s least reliable trucks and some of the most commonly reported issues with each one:

  • Ram 3500: Considering this truck is marketed almost solely towards the construction industry, one would think it’d be capable of handling rigorous work! Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and this model received the “award” for the least reliable truck from Consumer Reports. Drivers often reported problems with the transmission, steering and fuel system. There were also multiple reports of issues regarding body integrity.
  • Chevrolet Colorado: The Chevy Colorado came back onto the market in 2015. Back then, drivers had a lot of issues with the cabin’s climate system, the suspension and the fuel system. Sadly, these troubles haven’t totally disappeared. Though they’re not as common as they once were, drivers still report problems in all three of those areas.
  • GMC Canyon: This truck is a more upscale version of the Chevy Colorado, yet it’s still plagued with some of the same reliability issues. Canyon owners also seem to have problems with the transmission and fuel system. Though there aren’t many reports of problems with the climate system, the cabin’s electronics don’t always seem to function as they should.
  • Nissan Titan: The Titan was redesigned and 2017 and almost immediately got solid test scores across the board. However, the 2019 edition hasn’t been so lucky. Drivers have had trouble with auxiliary engine components like belts, pulleys and mounts. They’ve also reported body integrity problems like leaks and cracks. On a scale of 1 to 100, Titan’s predicted reliability score was a 28—yikes!
  • Toyota Tacoma: Toyota consistently receives awards for being the industry’s most reliable mainstream brand. However, they seem to have missed the mark this year with their compact pickup model. Toyota Tacoma owners have reported issues with the transmission and drivetrain. These are certainly two components you want working while you’re heading down the road.
  • Chevy Silverado 2500HD: Front to back and side to side, the 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500HD seems to have problems everywhere! Drivers surveyed reported issues with body integrity, the fuel system, transmission and drivetrain. It may be worth noting that transmission and drivetrain issues weren’t as common, but they still shouldn’t be ignored.
